Today, I’m showing you how to cook the best damn steak of your life (even if you have the cooking acumen of a caveman).
Because let’s be honest…
As a man, you should be able to flex in both the kitchen and the grill.
Not only is cooking a VITAL life skill for your health, longevity and vitality, but it’s also huge from a social standpoint.
There are few things my wife and I enjoy more than cooking up a big, nutritious, delicious meal with fresh ingredients from our favorite local farmers, and sharing it with our friends and family.
That’s because food is meant to be an experience you enjoy and savor with others.
Unfortunately, many men don’t realize that and still cook and eat like children.
“Good food is very often, even most often, simple food.”- Anthony Bourdain
I’ve spent well over $100 for a steak at a premium restaurant, and the recipe I’m showing you today knocks that steak out of the park.
Granted, it does ruin eating out for you.
But that’s okay.
It’s well worth the trade when you host your first dinner and receive praise from your family and closest friends.
Here are the tools you’ll need:
- Steak
- Smoker
- Cast iron skillet
- Grass-fed butter
- Meat thermometer
- Borsari’s Original Seasoned Salt Blend
- Gas grill (or some other direct heat cooktop that gets HOT)
And don’t worry – this recipe is so simple a caveman could do it.
Here’s how to cook the best damn steak of your life, step by step:
Step 1: Buy steak
This recipe works great on:
- Filets
- Ribeyes
- And New York Strips
Just make sure the steak you buy is AT LEAST 1.5 inches thick.
Step 2: Season the steak
Get the steak out of the fridge and on the counter 1 hour before you want to start cooking.
This way it gets up to room temperature.
While it’s sitting there – season it liberally with Borsari’s Original Seasoned Salt Blend.
Step 3: Preheat smoker
Preheat your smoker to 225 degrees fahrenheit.
I have a Traeger for this and love it.
But any smoker will do.
Note: If you don’t have a smoker, you can try doing something similar in your oven (but no promises).
Step 4: Place steak on smoker and cook
Once your smoker gets up to temp, place your steak on the grate and cook until the internal temperature of the steak reaches 120 degrees fahrenheit.
Note: this should take ~30-45 minutes.
Step 5: Preheat gas grill and skillet
As your steak approaches 120 degrees fahrenheit on the smoker, turn on your gas grill and set the temperature to as hot as it will get.
At the same time, place your cast iron skillet on the grill so it gets piping hot.
Note: give this 5-8 minutes to get HOT.
Step 6: Sear and finish
When your steak hits 120 degrees fahrenheit on the smoker, pull it off immediately and set it aside until your gas grill + skillet gets HOT.
You’ll know it’s hot because it’ll be smoking like crazy.
Place a heaping tablespoon of grass-fed butter in the cast iron skillet. Once it melts (and it’ll melt fast) put your steak on the cast iron skillet and close the grill hood.
Cook the steak for 2.5 minutes on one side then flip and cook for another 2.5 minutes on the other side.
Then pull the steak and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before eating.
Conclusion
And that’s it.
How to cook the best damn steak of your life step by step.
Give it a go this weekend and let me know how it tastes.
I hope it ruins all other steaks for you as it has for me 😉
